Novel approach provides a marker for distinguishing different types of bowel disease.

A unique approach for distinguishing different types of bowel disease using the stool sample of patients has been created by researchers in the UK. It works by analyzing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from stool samples. This provides a unique fingerprint for different gastrointestinal diseases and could provide less expensive quicker and more accurate diagnoses for a group of diseases that have been very hard to identify. This testing has been able to distinguish between irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with 76% accuracy.

Colostrum is an exceptional nutritional substance that provides a perfect combination of immune growth factors to enhance general immune function and to help reduce the debilitating effects of IBS and IBD including Crohn's celiac and ulcerative colitis.

Perilla frutescens is an herb native to Eastern Asia that demonstrates antispasmodic prokinetic and anti-inflammatory effects which help normalize and promote health bowel function and provide relief from GI symptoms. In addition Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been shown to reduce digestive discomfort and abdominal pain in individuals with IBS.
